Group Therapy

Flourishing with Group Therapy…

At Journey to New Beginnings, we offer several groups that can supplement individual therapy. Group sessions give us a look inside the minds and hearts of other people like us.

Often, we can feel alone with our mental illness or experiences. Seeing others flourish in group sessions can offer hope and healing.

Group therapy can be intimating for a lot of people, but facing that fear can be a huge step toward healing.

View our group offerings below to see which could be a good fit for you or your child.

Group Offerings

Putting the Pieces Together: Support Group for Parents of Children with Autism

“Other parents don’t understand my child’s challenges.”

“My child has been diagnosed with Autism, what does that mean for our family?”

The sensory issues, different therapies, and around-the-clock care can be exhausting.

At Journey to New Beginnings, you can share your experiences and tips with other parents who get it. You can learn about community resources, how to navigate the challenges children with Autism face in school, respite care, and how to help your child’s mood and behavioral challenges.

If you would like more information about joining, please contact Monica at monica@journeytonewbeginnings.com.

Putting the Pieces Together: Social Skills Group for Children with Autism

Would you love for your child to have the opportunity to practice social skills with other children on the spectrum?

If you worry about your child making friends with similar interests, an Autism social skills group could be your answer. Not only will your child learn coping skills, but your child will also learn coping skills and how to express feelings.

The groups include initial assessments and screening, group activity therapy, and family therapy to reinforce gains made in group sessions. Groups are led by Latrice Hamilton, LPC.

Group sessions will focus on children practicing skills together with their peers and counselors. Groups will be held weekly for nine consecutive weeks. An intake may be required, and it is recommended that each group member receives individual therapy as well.

The individual’s primary caregiver is included throughout treatment for family therapy sessions, as we focus heavily on family involvement for ASD families.

If you are interested in participating, please contact our office or email Dominik at dominik@journeytonewbeginnings.com.

Putting the Pieces Together: Support Group for Middle School Children with Autism

Middle school is hard for most children to navigate, and even harder for kids on the spectrum.

Does your child with an Autism diagnosis struggle to make friends? Does your middle schooler struggle with social cues, expressing feelings, handling stress, and coping with emotions?

Journey to New Beginnings is currently accepting referrals for preteens diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder to participate in a cognitive behavior therapy approach (CBT), an evidence-based intervention, to reinforce social skills. Program includes initial assessments and screening, group activity therapy, and family therapy to reinforce gains made in group sessions. Groups are led by Latrice Hamilton, LPC.

My high schooler is struggling to make friends, not give in to peer pressure, respond to bullying, and cope with emotions.

High school can be hard enough without being on the spectrum.

Grief and Loss Support Group

At the blueness of the skies
And in the warmth of summer,
We remember Them.
– Sylvan Kamesn & Rabbi Jack Reimer

Grief and loss is a difficult time. Once the preparations are made, the funeral is complete, and the food no longer arrives, we are left with the emptiness and sadness from the loss. It all hits home when the initial processes are over, and things are quiet.

Everyone grieves differently at a different pace in a different way. During the grieving process you often feel alone and lost.

Joining this group is a great opportunity for understanding and support during your healing journey from a loss.

This group will be offered for eight consecutive weeks for adults ages 18+.
